The University of Uyo on Tuesday afternoon erupted in violence that has claimed the life of one student.
A source who spoke to Nativescoops said the school authority had relocated the Faculty of Natural And Applied Sciences from the Ikpa Road Campus to the permanent site on Nwaniba road where Engineering Faculty had earlier been relocated.
Students of the faculty allegedly demanded the Vice-Chancellor of the school, Prof. Comfort Ekpo provide a bus which would provide transportation to and fro both campuses.
The Vice-Chancellor is said to have provided taxis which charged the students N100 on each leg of the trip which the students complained was expensive.
In a bid to push their demands, the students led a protest which led the school authorities to call in the police.
The police arrived and immediately fired shots and tear gas at the students sending them running and scampering for safety.
A male student is said to have been shot and killed by the police.
Some students are alleged to have set fire to the university gate and one of the female hostel blocks
A source claims the protesting students were seen bearing the corpse of the student and headed towards the Government House.
One of the students, shot dead by the police, was a young boy (photo below) , named kaycee.
