A one year project by a team of Mechanical Engineering students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has produced an electric, eco-friendly car.
The project, initiated by Olusanya Olukoya, now a graduate of Mechanical Engineering, was recently unveiled at an exhibition organized by Designed for Zero Vehicle Emission (DOVE) Initiative at the Julius Berger Hall of the university.

Named DOVE P1, the 200 kilograms, driver-only automobile is powered by a high voltage battery and has zero carbon emission.

Built from locally sourced materials, it has a speed limit of 15 kilometers per hour and has a tabular frame chassis and16-inch diameter tires.

Olukoya said the idea behind the car was the need to build eco-friendly cars.
"We want to create pure, clean, eco-friendly and energy efficient automobiles," he said.

"This informed our idea to build an electric car as against the conventional fuel-powered cars.”

The leader of the, Peace Omoruyi, said an improved version of the DOVE P1 is already being designed and will be called DOVE P2.
